Quando imaginamos a diagonal de um quadrado, formamos dois triângulos com a hipotenusa de 10cm ( diagonal).

 

   Logo temos dois lados iguais a x e uma hipotenusa. assim podemos aplicar Pitágoras:

 

     ( hipotenusa )² = l² + l²

 

       hipotenusa = 10cm  --->      10² = 2 l²

 

                                     vem :   2l² = 100

 

                                                    l² = 100/2     ---->    l² = 50   ------>   l = √50

 

                                                                                                                  l = √ 5² x 2

 

                                                                                                                  l = 5 √2
