Si você se dá conta, o going to funciona como um tempo continuous, onde o auxilia é o verbo to be e o verbo to go vem no gerundio, que em Inglês se forma acrescentando ing.

Se o que lhe é pedido éno passado, então só tem que conjugar o verbo to be no passado e colocar o verbo to go no gerundio (going). Ou seja, quem "assume a responsabilidade" de colocar os tempos continuous no presente ou no passado é o verbo tobe.

I was going home
You were going to the stadium
He was going to the doctor
She was going to scream
It was going to eat my lunch
We were going to run after him
You were going to say goodbye
They were going to the beach.
